DOMESTIC A330 FREIGHTER ADDED TO FLEET
In a strategic move to expand its capacity and cater to burgeoning e-commerce needs, Australia Post has proudly introduced a new cargo aircraft to its fleet. In alliance with Qantas Domestic Air Freight, this fresh addition is a revamped Airbus A330-200P2F, initially set to function between Australia’s east and west coasts, ferrying StarTrack and Express Post packages.
This new entrant is expected to bolster the peak capacity of the network by a commanding 29%, as stated by Australia Post. The new cargo aircraft is an essential asset in accommodating escalating e-commerce requirements during the peak Christmas season.
Moreover, the aircraft’s induction signifies a significant step towards environmental responsibility by replacing a retiring Boeing 737 freighter from the fleet. The new A330-200P2F will reduce Australia Post’s aircraft emissions by a staggering 42% per kilogram of cargo, providing a greater cargo capacity while consuming less fuel per package.
Australia Post CEO and Managing Director, Paul Graham, spotlighted the profound impact of the new cargo aircraft in strengthening Australia Post’s delivery network. He stated, “Our new A330 freighter spearheads an increased elasticity in our freighter fleet, engendering a sustainable and enduring solution to meet surging customer demand propelled by e-commerce. The A330 also enables us to simplify and streamline our services further, while fulfilling our pledge towards a greener future. The additional capability of this aircraft allows us to diminish the count of aircraft in the air by servicing our high-volume sectors, thereby lowering our carbon footprint and ensuring faster and reliable deliveries for our customers.”
Australia Post owns a dedicated fleet of 14 cargo aircraft in collaboration with its air services partner, Qantas Freight. As of December 2022, Australia Post has transported over 9 million kilograms through its dedicated cargo aircraft and passenger flight cargo holds. With the new A330-200P2F, Australia Post is poised to make further headway in boosting its network’s capability, reducing delivery times and enhancing customer satisfaction.
In addition to expanding its fleet, Australia Post has also invested in infrastructure upgrades at major facilities across the country to cater to the growing e-commerce needs. This includes automated sorting machines, parcel lockers, and additional processing facilities to ensure efficient handling of packages.
